Spoken Introduction
We've listened to the birds, the animals, the fish and insects, and we're beginning to understand what they're saying to us. They can't speak, so we have to speak for them.
Verse 1
We're talking for the birds who need
Big old trees to nest and trees to breed,
Fish send word through us to let you know,
They need clean rivers and clean seas to grow.
Yes we've heard from wild and furry things,
They need the places where the nightjar sings,
Pelican said as she flew so high,
'Take care of water in a land so dry.'
The creatures said there's one more thing.
Chorus
We want to be here,
For your Great Grandchild's Child,
There have to be places
That are left to the wild.
Verse 2
The frog said, 'Take your time, study me,
To some diseases I still hold the key.
Protect the wetland and the quiet lagoon,
Learn from the bats that fly around the moon'.
And the insect world had this to say:
'Don't forget that we've a part to play,
In the chain of life we are all linked,
Every species dreads the word 'extinct''.
We want to be here,
For your Great Grandchild's Child,
There have to be places
That are left to the wild.
We want to be here,
For your Great Grandchild's Child,
There have to be places
That are left to the wild.
