Information and Resources for Councils
Councils play an important role in shaping the activities of individuals and organisations within their local area. National Water Week provides many opportunities for Councils to run events and activities, and provide support to schools, business and community members and groups who are running their own activities.
The 2009 theme "Securing Our Water Future" encourages better understanding of the importance of conserving the limited water resources available to us, and the significance of securing water for our future through diversification of water sources. This is something that many local and regional Councils are already promoting within their communities, and we hope that National Water Week 2009 will provide a platform for Councils to extend current campaigns and activities.
Benefits of Participating in NWW Activities
Councils who have participated in NWW activities in the past have found there to be many benefits, including:
- An opportunity to compliment and promote their own water awareness campaign
- Potential to increase awareness and understanding about water conservation and management across their communities
- Promotion of local environmental action groups
- A platform to encourage community participation in a variety of water-related activities.
